A store clerk is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after being beaten in a robbery at a convenience store Tuesday night in North Bellport, Suffolk County police said.

The identity of the victim was not released. Police said he was treated at an area hospital after being attacked at the Montauk Highway store near the intersection with Doane Avenue at 11:44 p.m.

Police said the suspect, identified only as a male, entered the store, assaulted the clerk -- including, punching the clerk in the face -- then fled with cash, cigarettes and cigars. No weapons were displayed during the robbery. It was not clear how much cash was taken.

Police are now searching for the suspect and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS or the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
