Suffolk County police detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash, which left an 85-year-old woman dead, on a Lindenhurst road Saturday afternoon, a police spokeswoman said.

A passenger in one of the cars was killed when they collided in a residential neighborhood near the intersection of 47th Street and Straight Path about 1:05 p.m., police said.

Police on Saturday did not identify the cause of the crash and said the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made; no citations were issued, police said.

Ronald Scagnelli, 20, of Kane Street, Lindenhurst, was in his 1988 Pontiac Firebird northbound on Straight Path when his vehicle collided with a 2004 Hyundai Elantra that was traveling westbound on 47th Street in Lindenhurst, police said.

The driver of the Elantra, Mary Mazur, 86, of Jackson Avenue, Lindenhurst was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where she was treated for minor, non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Her passenger, Marie Novak, 85, of 47th Street, Lindenhurst, was also transported to Good Samaritan, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
