Replacing the Wellwood Avenue bridge over Sunrise Highway in North Lindenhurst will cause off-hour lane closings beginning Monday, the state Department of Transportation said.
A single travel lane in the northbound and southbound directions of Wellwood Avenue in the vicinity of the bridge will be closed for about a week between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting, DOT said.
Following those closures, three lanes of traffic, two southbound and one northbound, and the sidewalk will be shifted to the east side of the Wellwood Avenue bridge, DOT said.
On Sunrise Highway, a single lane will be closed eastbound and/or westbound from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for about one week, Monday through Friday at the end of June, then intermittently as the project progresses, the agency said.
At least one travel lane in each direction of Wellwood Avenue and Sunrise Highway will remain open during the work, but DOT said it might issue additional travel advisories for other lane closures as the projects progress.
Drivers are being warned in advance of the closures via electronic road signs but should plan to take alternate routes to avoid delays.
The lane closings may be canceled or postponed due to inclement weather.
