Northport-East Northport schools issue ‘stranger danger’ warning

The Northport-East Northport School District said it has warned parents and guardians of a “stranger danger” encounter that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

“We were informed that the driver of a black four-door Kia engaged in a conversation with a parent and three students who were walking on Larkfield Road, just south of Pulaski Road,” district security consultant Leonard Devlin wrote in a message Thursday.

“The male driver asked the parent several questions that made the parent and students feel uncomfortable,” the message said.

“The nature of the questions were related to where they live and if they wanted to get closer to the car,” the message said.

Suffolk County police said the group walked away and the man drove east toward Cheshire Place.

The school district said parents concerned about a similar situation should call 911 or the school district security office at 631-486-7037.

Police asked anyone with information on the encounter to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477.
