Officers revive woman with Narcan in North Amityville

Two officers revived a woman in North Amityville who was overdosing on heroin Sunday, Suffolk police said in a news release.

Police responded to Sal's Fruit Tree market on Sunrise Highway around 2:21 p.m. after a caller reported a woman passed out in a car. When police arrived, the woman had a pulse but was not breathing, the release said.

One of the officers gave the woman Narcan, a drug used to reverse opiate overdoses that officers from all Suffolk police precincts, including the Marine Bureau and Emergency Service Section, carry as part of a pilot program with the state Department of Health.

An ambulance crew from North Amityville Fire Company transported the woman to St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage. Police did not identify her.
