One man was killed and four were injured, two critically, when an out-of-control car struck a tree on the median of the eastbound Northern State Parkway in Hauppauge early Wednesday, police said.

The vehicle, a Honda, overturned during the crash near Exit 46, New Highway, at 6:52 a.m. Three of the five passengers were ejected through a rear window, State Police said. A tree toppled onto the car during the crash. No other vehicles were involved.

None of the victims have been identified.

The eastbound parkway reopened early in the afternoon.
