Cops: Woman seriously hurt in Wading River head-on crash; 2 others injured

Three people were injured in a head-on crash Saturday night in Wading River, Riverhead police said.

Police said Debra O'Connor 46, of Calverton, was heading west on Route 25A when she veered her 2014 Toyota 4Runner into oncoming traffic and crashed into a 2004 Infiniti. Wading River firefighters had to cut free the driver of the Infiniti, Jean Derespina, 56, of Miller Place. She was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center where she was treated for serious injuries, police said.

Her husband, Frank Derespina, 56, and O'Connor were also taken to Stony Brook with nonlife threatening injuries.

A 2004 Chevy Suburban swerved and veered off the road to avoid the crash and hit several trees. The driver, Frank Pendl, 49, of Rocky Point, and his wife Deborah, 48, were not injured.

The New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.
