Pedestrian hit in North Bay Shore dies

A 59-year-old man was struck by a car and killed Monday morning as he attempted to cross Fifth Avenue in North Bay Shore, police said.

The identity of the victim was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Suffolk County police said the accident occurred near the intersection of Marvin Road at 6:10 a.m. The driver, identified by police as Marlon Ordonez, 21, of Brentwood, remained at the scene and was not charged.

Police said Ordonez was driving north his 1997 Honda Civic when he struck the man. The victim was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he later died.

Ordonez was also taken to Southside for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Police said the car was impounded for a safety check.

The investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone with information regarding the accident to call the Third Squad at 1-631-854-8352.
