Pedestrian in Huntington Station hit, in serious condition

A Huntington Station man was seriously injured after he was hit by a car during heavy rain in Huntington Station early Sunday, Suffolk County police said.

Police said Nelson Vasquez, 46, was on New York Avenue near East 12th Street shortly before 12:30 a.m. when he was hit by a 2006 Scion that was heading south on New York Avenue.

Vasquez, who was unconscious after the impact, was taken to Huntington Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The Scion driver, George Schulman, 65, of Malverne, was not injured and remained at the scene, but his vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.

Police said they are continuing the investigation, and ask anyone who might have witnessed the crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
