Pedestrian hit, critically injured by driver in crash, Suffolk County police say

A 54-year-old man was struck by a car and critically injured as he walked along Route 112 in Medford Saturday night, Suffolk County police said.

Police have not released the name of the victim, pending notification of next of kin, but said the man was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition.

His condition was not immediately known Monday.

Police said the incident occurred south of Granny Road at about 9:40 p.m. and said the victim was walking "in the roadway" when he was struck by a southbound 2005 Honda Civic. The 22-year-old driver remained at the scene and was not injured.

He has not been charged.

The crash is being investigated and police asked anyone with information to contact Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652. All calls will remain confidential.
