People's United Bank in Centereach robbed Friday, say police

A bank robber who demanded and received cash from a teller at the People's United Bank in Centereach late Friday morning is being sought by Suffolk police, officials said.

The suspect, about 45 to 50 years old, fled on foot after robbing the bank at 1919 Middle Country Rd., at about 11:30 a.m.

His height was estimated at 5 feet 7 inches, and he has a heavy build, police said. He wore a dark-colored baseball hat, a black T-shirt, dark jeans and sunglasses.

The teller gave him an unspecified amount of cash after he handed over a note with his demands.

Detectives with the pattern crime unit are handling the investigation, police said.

Anyone with information about it are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls can be anonymous and will remain confidential.
