Investigators are seeking the shooter -- or shooters -- in a vehicle who fired gunshots at a car on Deer Park Avenue early Tuesday near Oakland Avenue in Deer Park, police said.

Suffolk County police said detectives have interviewed the driver of the targeted vehicle, but said initial indications are that no one was struck by gunfire, nor was the vehicle hit. The car has been impounded.

Police said the gunfire was reported in a 911 call at 12:10 a.m. The caller reported hearing gunshots followed by the sound of a car crash.

The targeted vehicle ran into the divider on Deer Park Avenue, police said. It was not immediately clear how many people may have been in either vehicle or if the parties are known to one another or if the incident was random. It also was not clear what evidence was recovered at the scene.
