Police arrest six at sobriety checkpoint

A sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue early Sunday resulted in six people being arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, Suffolk police said.

The checkpoint, on West Main Street, was conducted between midnight and 2:30 a.m. by Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol and offers from the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh precincts. A total of 236 vehicles passed through the checkpoint.

The six arrested were:

Brittany Degennaro, 23, of Harbour Drive in Blue Point;

Ryan Sirico, 21, of Lowell Road in Sayville;

Amy Shuren, 40, of Cornell Road in East Patchogue;

Amanda Rahner, 27, of 33rd Street in Astoria;

Michelle Fernandez, 24, of Kane Avenue in Medford;

Daniel Mandriota, 23, of Renee Drive in Bayport.

The six were scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.

A checkpoint in Port Jefferson Station on Friday night and Saturday morning yielded 10 arrests.

Police said the checkpoints were intended to prevent injuries and fatalities from drinking and driving during the holiday season.
