Police ask for help in identifying hit-run victim in Bay Shore

Suffolk County police are trying to identify a seriously injured man who had been hit by a vehicle and was found lying in the road at a Bay Shore intersection on the morning of New Year's Day.

The man was found in the road at Pine Aire Drive and Heckscher Avenue at 6:20 a.m. Friday, police said Saturday.

He was taken to Southside Hospital, where doctors determined that his injuries were consistent with having been struck by a vehicle, police said.

The man also was suffering from hypothermia. It was unclear how long he had been lying in the road, police said.

The man is Hispanic, about 30, 5 feet tall and weighs between 140 and 150 pounds. He was wearing a black shirt, dark jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the victim's identity or the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
