Police: Bay Shore man drove drunk with daughter, 2

A Bay Shore man has been arrested under Leandra's Law after allegedly driving drunk with his daughter and getting into a head-on crash, Suffolk County police said.

Christopher Loguercio, 35, of 1264 Boston Ave., was driving a 1995 Dodge Intrepid south on Connetquot Avenue toward Atlantic Street in North Great River around 8:09 p.m. Tuesday, police said. While attempting a left turn at the intersection, Loguercio ran head on into a van traveling north on Connetquot Avenue.

Loguercio's daughter, 2, was in the vehicle, police said. Loguercio, his daughter and the driver of the van were taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment. The daughter was treated and released to her mother, and the driver of the van also was released, police said.

Loguercio was kept at the hospital for observation.

Loguercio is charged with driving while intoxicated, child endangerment and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a passenger younger than 16.

Under Leandra's Law, passed in November, the endangerment charge is a felony. The law was passed following the death of Leandra Rosado, 11, who was killed in an alleged DWI accident after the minivan in which she was a passenger crashed on the West Side Highway.

Loguercio is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip pending his release from the hospital.
