Cops: Police vehicle involved in 3-vehicle crash in Middle Island

An on-duty Suffolk police officer and another motorist were transported to hospitals Friday morning with minor injuries after a three-vehicle accident in Middle Island, Suffolk police said.

Police said the officer, assigned to the Sixth Precinct, was in a marked patrol car.

The accident occurred at about 11 a.m. on eastbound Middle Country Road at Swezey Drive, police said.

The driver of a Chevy was taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, while the officer was taken to St. Charles Hospital, also in Port Jefferson, police said.

The third driver was not injured in her Pontiac, police said.

A police spokeswoman said she did not have other details, including what caused the crash. No charges have been filed in the crash, police said.
