Police ID body found in Central Islip

Suffolk County police Monday identified the woman whose body was found over the weekend next to a Central Islip road as a 20-year-old resident of the community.

Homicide squad detectives continue to investigate the death of Jennifer Perez, police said in a news release.

A passing motorist spotted the body 5 feet off Pinewood Avenue, near Connetquot Avenue, about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick, commander of the homicide squad, said at the scene.

He added it was unclear whether the woman's death resulted from a hit-and-run accident or other criminal activity.

The body lay just blocks from where a 19-year-old mother and her 2-year-old son -- victims of gang violence -- were found in February 2010.

"There is no reason to believe that it is associated with that case," Fitzpatrick said Saturday, adding that it's "too early" to tell whether this recent death is gang-related.
