Police identify body found in Central Islip

A body found Monday afternoon in a wooded area in Central Islip has been identified as that of an elderly man who had been reported missing last week, Suffolk police said.

Authorities had issued a silver alert for Sames Lafortune, 92, of Bishop McGann Dr. in Central Islip, who had gone missing from his home on July 20.

An area resident found the body behind a commercial building on Creative Drive at 12:56 p.m., police said, and notified authorities.

Police said the death was not a result of foul play.

The body was taken to the Suffolk County medical examiner's office, where an autopsy was to be performed, police said.
