Police investigate shooting in Wyandanch that leaves man critically hurt, cops say

Suffolk County police are investigating a shooting in Wyandanch Sunday night that left a man critically injured.

Police responded to a Hemlock Street residence on a 911 call reporting a shooting at 8:51 p.m., a police spokeswoman said.

Officers arrived to find a resident of the home, Taquan Caldwell, 23, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, police said.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was in critical condition, police said.

"An investigation by First Squad detectives revealed that the victim had a dispute with two individuals at the residence prior to the shooting," police said in a statement. "The suspects fled before police arrived."

Detectives urge anyone with information to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.

Earlier this month, three people were shot to death and a fourth person was wounded as they sat in parked SUV on Davidson Street in Wyandanch, about 1 1/2 miles from Hemlock Street.
