Police: Man arrested in theft of used oil from outside Huntington eateries

For one Staten Island man it was out of the frying pan and into the fire Friday, after police arrested him on charges of stealing used cooking oil from a holding container behind two restaurants in Huntington.

Suffolk County police said Second Precinct Officers Daniel Denig and John McAleavey were on patrol when they spotted Joskey Henry draining oil from the tank behind New York Pizza and New China Restaurant on New York Avenue at 6 a.m.

Police said Henry stole about 800 pounds of the used oil, which was in a container owned by Darling International Inc. a New Jersey-based recycling company.

The value of the oil was not immediately available.

Henry, 36, of 16 Sandra Lane, Staten Island, was arrested and charged with petty larceny. His vehicle also was impounded, police said.

Arraignment information was not immediately available. Police said the investigation is continuing.
