Police: Man being questioned in Nesconset injures officer

A detective was injured Thursday when a man being questioned in Nesconset started fighting with him and the officer's partner, Suffolk police said.

The man was arrested and the detective taken to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, police said. The other detective was not injured, police said.

The detectives were asking the man questions on Mayfair Road when the fight started about 4:20 p.m., police said.

The man was charged with second-degree assault, police said. He was not injured but taken to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown to be checked out, then released, police said.

Police said his name was not being released because of an ongoing investigation by Fourth Precinct detectives. No other details were released.
