A 48-year-old man was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and criminal trespass after police said he was caught breaking into Floyd Memorial Library, on First Street in Greenport, just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Paul S. Mittleman of Greenport was arrested by Southold Town police by officers responding to a 911 caller reporting the break-in at about 12:45 a.m., police said.

Police said Mittleman broke a basement window to gain entry to the library and said officers found him in the basement. Police said Mittleman suffered lacerations from the broken glass and was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport for treatment, then was arrested and charged.
