Police: Man punched, robbed outside Riverhead store

Police are searching for an attacker who they said punched a man in the face, stealing his wallet and $300 in cash, outside a 7-Eleven store on Old Country Road in Riverhead early Wednesday.

The robbery took place in the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Plaza parking lot at 1:42 a.m., Riverhead Town police said.

The victim, identified as Augustyn Cotajay, 39, of Riverhead, told police an unknown man approached him, punched him in the face, stole his wallet -- and fled the scene.

Police said Cotajay was transported to nearby Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of a fractured nose. His condition was unknown.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the attack and robbery to call them at 631-727-4500, ext. 377.
