Police: North Amityville man dies after being hit on Sunrise Highway

A North Amityville man was killed Thursday afternoon, struck by a car on eastbound Sunrise Highway on the Copiague-North Amityville border, Suffolk County police said.

The North Amityville fire department transported Jorge Molina, 60, to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the driver, identified as Timothy Meyers, 17, of Lindenhurst, was not injured.

Police said Meyers was headed east in a 2004 Hyundai Sonata when he struck Molina as he walked in the road near Bayview Avenue at 2:40 p.m.

The Hyundai was impounded and the investigation into the circumstances of the fatal crash is continuing, police said.

Sunrise Highway was closed for hours in both directions between Bayview Avenue and Great Neck Road as detectives and crime scene investigators gathered evidence, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call First Squad detectives at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
