Police: Pedestrian hit by car in Riverhead

A man, 60, was seriously injured Tuesday evening when he was struck by a car on West Main Street in Riverhead, Riverhead Town police said.

The man, whose identity was not released, was airlifted by Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with "non-life-threatening injuries," police said.

Police said the driver, Michael Kavon, 43, of Brooklyn, remained at the scene after the accident and was not charged. The vehicle, a 2002 Nissan Maxima, was impounded for a routine safety check.

The accident occurred at 8:50 p.m. Police said the vehicle was going westbound on Main when it struck the man. The victim received medical attention at the scene from the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
