A Brooklyn man was seriously injured when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle as he crossed Suffolk Avenue Sunday night in Central Islip, police said.

The crash occurred at the intersection with Hawthorne Avenue at about 9:40 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

Frank Ferro, 37, was crossing Suffolk Avenue, north to south, when he was struck by a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Catherine Phillips, 53, of Islip Terrace, police said.

Phillips remained at the scene and was not charged. She also was not injured, police said.

Police said Ferro was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with undisclosed serious injuries. His condition was not known.

The accident scene is near the Long Island Rail Road station and just a few hundred feet from the scene of another serious pedestrian accident that occurred Friday night.

In that crash, police said Dominique Crifasi, 23, of Central Islip, was seriously injured when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Suffolk Avenue east of Lowell Avenue.

Police have not arrested that hit-and-run driver.
