Crime Stoppers and Third Squad detectives are trying to determine who stole nearly $8,000 worth of copper wire last month from Central Islip Senior High School, Suffolk County police said Monday.

Some time between 9 p.m. on June 4 and 8 a.m. on June 13, the wiring was stripped from a control panel attached to recently installed solar panels at the school, police said in a news release.

The thieves made off with about 800 feet of wire.

Police released a photograph Monday of a light-colored sport-utility vehicle that might have been used during the crime. The photo was taken from video surveillance cameras at the school.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
