Police probe Northampton home invasion

A masked and armed assailant attempted a daylight robbery in a Northampton home Thursday, demanding drugs and money before running off without getting anything, Southampton Town police said Friday.

The occupants inside a Birch Court home called 911 about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, saying the assailant was threatening them with a handgun, police said.

The suspect ran off, launching a search that involved patrol officers, detectives, State Police and their dogs, Suffolk police aviation officers and Suffolk County Sheriff's office, Southampton Town police said.

The suspect appeared to be 230 pounds and 5 feet 11 inches tall and wore all black, police said.

No injuries were reported. Anyone with information may call Southampton Town detectives at 631-702-2230.
