Police: Riverhead clerks sold beer to minors

Two Riverhead store clerks were arrested on charges they sold alcohol to minors as part of an underage drinking initiative by Riverside Station troopers, State Police said Tuesday.

The clerks -- Ravinder Parkash, 58, of Riverhead, and Heriberto Jerez-Gutierrez, 36, of Coram, each sold alcohol to youths sent into the stores on April 25 by State Police, according to a news release.

At 7:30 p.m. April 25, an underage subject purchased beer from USA Gas Food Mart at 415 E. Main St., purchasing beer from Parkash, police said.

At 8 p.m. April 25, another minor under the direction of troopers purchased beer from Jerez-Gutierrez at the MG Deli at 999 E. Main St., police said.

Parkash is charged with unlawfully dealing with a child and selling alcohol to a minor. He is scheduled to return May 14 to the Town of Riverhead Court.

Jerez-Gutierrez is charged with unlawfully dealing with a child and selling alcohol to a minor. He is due to return to court June 14.
