Police: Suspect arrested in 7 home burglaries in Suffolk

A homeless man has been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries after a Suffolk County police officer spotted him on the street in Lindenhurst on Thursday.

The officer was driving down North Wellwood Avenue when he saw Ronald David, 47, whom he recognized to be the man captured on surveillance footage during a burglary, near the road, Suffolk County police said. The officer stopped and after investigating, arrested David, who does not have a place of residence, at 12:05 p.m. Thursday.

Police said that between March and October David broke into and stole jewelry, cash, credit cards and electronics from homes in Bayport, West Islip, Islip, Lindenhurst and West Babylon and from two homes in East Islip.

David was charged with seven counts of second-degree burglary and is being held at Suffolk police's First Precinct in West Babylon. He is due to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
