Police: Wheatley Heights man dies in crash

A Wheatley Heights electrician was killed early Saturday when his car struck a tree in Dix Hills, Suffolk County police said.

Krystopher Simmons, 27, was driving his 2012 Honda Civic westbound on Caledonia Road, 300 feet east of Wolf Hill Road, when his car veered off the road. The vehicle struck a guardrail before crashing into the tree about 3 a.m., police said.

Simmons, of 8 Fairhaven Dr., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends and family said Simmons was a member of Local Union No. 3 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

"Krys was a man cut down before the prime of his life . . . there are no other words to explain this," said his friend Michael Marin. "Although his life was short, we will take with us all that he was. His thoughtfulness, kind words and the love he shared will live in all who he touched."

Simmons was on his way home from a friend's house when the crash happened, Marin said.

"He had just started to live," Marin said.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Second Squad Detectives at 631-854-8252 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
