A woman was critically injured Friday when she was struck by a sport utility vehicle on Montauk Highway in Montauk, East Hampton Town police said.

The accident occurred near South Elder Street at 6:35 a.m., police said. Police said the woman, identified as Mariana Guanga Baculima, 32, of Montauk, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Police said Baculima was crossing Montauk Highway, apparently in a crosswalk, when she was struck by an eastbound 2005 GMC Yukon driven by Robert J. Budesa, 64, of Montauk. Budesa was not injured.

Budesa has not been charged, though police said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
