Police: West Babylon woman leaving for work robbed in driveway

A 44-year-old woman leaving for work was robbed in her driveway in West Babylon on Tuesday by a man who removed her backpack, dumped her belongings and fled with cash, Suffolk County police said.

The robbery happened at 5:15 a.m. on Outlook Avenue.

Police said the woman was preparing to leave for work when the man, described as wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and brown work gloves, approached her, held an object to her throat and took her backpack.

Police said he then took the backpack and dumped its contents on the driveway, taking her money. Then he fled on foot.

Police said the woman was not injured in the robbery.

Police said First Squad detectives are investigating -- and asked anyone with information to call them at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
