A Port Jefferson Village constable was hospitalized early Thursday after a medical episode caused him to crash his vehicle through the fence of a house, police said.

The constable was driving on Jefferson Landing Circle in Port Jefferson at about 12:28 a.m. when he began feeling “symptoms of a medical condition,” Suffolk County police said. The patrol vehicle he was driving hit a mailbox then crashed through the home’s fence.
