Suffolk police said an officer driving in his patrol car was struck in a Port Jefferson Station intersection Wednesday afternoon by a woman who witnesses say ran a red light.

The crash happened at about 4:30 p.m. as the officer was driving north on Old Town Road. His car was struck in the intersection by a vehicle heading west on Nesconset Highway, police said.

The officer, the female driver of the other car and her passenger were all taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The incident is still being investigated, but police say witnesses told officers that the female driver ran the light before crashing into the police vehicle.
