Power lost when breakers trip at Coram substation

Trouble at a Long Island Power Authority substation in Coram on Sunday night left roughly 16,000 homes without power for nearly half an hour.

LIPA spokeswoman Vanessa Baird-Streeter said circuit breakers at the substation opened at about 7:30 p.m. A downed power line at Nicolls Road and Horseback Place may have caused the breakers to open, she said, but the outage is under investigation.

LIPA customers in Coram, Selden, Middle Island and Farmingville were affected, Baird-Streeter said, and all had their power restored within 27 minutes of the outage.
