Prosecutor: Hidden cams found in alleged child pornographer's LI home

Smithtown real estate investor Joseph Valerio, 47, of

Smithtown real estate investor Joseph Valerio, 47, of Smithtown, for the second time in less than a month, has been arrested on charges of producing child pornography.

Authorities found several hidden cameras in the basement of the home of a Smithtown real estate investor facing child pornography charges, a federal prosecutor said in court Friday.

Eastern District prosecutor Allen Bode said FBI agents and Suffolk police detectives found cameras concealed in the ceiling, in a wall clock and under what appeared to be a mini-stage during a recent search of the home of Joseph Valerio.

Bode did not say whether authorities believe the cameras were used by Valerio, 47, to create child pornography.

In the most recent child pornography case brought against Valerio Tuesday, he was accused of taking pornographic pictures of a 6-year-old Smithtown girl in his basement.

Yesterday's court proceeding involved a separate case in which Valerio is accused of having a former girlfriend in Ukraine send him pornographic pictures of her 3-year-old daughter. He pleaded not guilty before U.S. District Judge Joseph Bianco in Central Islip.

During the arraignment, Bode said a grand jury has yet to meet on the case involving the 6-year-old to decide whether to issue an indictment.

Valerio has been held without bail since earlier this week as a flight risk and danger to the community.

His attorney, Anthony La Pinta of Hauppauge, declined to comment after the arraignment.
