The Suffolk County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing Sept. 19 to discuss an objection filed by Town of Huntington officials over the Heartland Town Square development in Brentwood.

In an Aug. 31 letter to the commission, Huntington officials said the concerns cited were the potential impact on Commack Road and Sagtikos Parkway and other traffic issues.

Heartland is the massive mixed-use development planned for the former Pilgrim State Psychiatric Center site in Brentwood. In February, the commission unanimously voted to recommend that the Islip Town Board grant an application to change the zoning for the site from residential to a newly established Pilgrim State Planned Redevelopment District. The Islip Town Board in July voted unanimously to approve zoning changes and the first phase of the plan.

The objection hearing is at 6 p.m. at the Rose Caracappa Auditorium, 725 Veterans Memorial Hwy. in Smithtown.

Written comments may be submitted before the hearing to the attention of: Andrew P. Freleng, Chief Planner, Suffolk County Planning Commission, Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Planning, P.O. Box 6100 — 11th Floor, Hauppauge, NY 11788.
