Randy Woods of Wyandanch shot and wounded in North Amityville, Suffolk police say

Suffolk County detectives are investigating the early-morning shooting Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015 of Randy Woods, 28, of Wyandanch. Police said they found Woods lying on Offaly Street between Brandon and Geraldine avenues at about 1:40am. Detectives are looking for the SUV and another vehicle, possibly a Honda Accord, seen in the vicinity at the time. Suffolk County police detectives are investigating the early-morning shooting Sunday of a 28-year-old man on a North Amityville street.

Police said they found Randy Woods, 28, of Wyandanch lying on Offaly Street, between Brandon and Geraldine avenues, about 1:40 a.m.

Woods had multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment, police said. He was listed in serious condition.

The investigation revealed that Woods was shot by an unknown person while he was standing next to a dark-colored sport utility vehicle, police said.

Detectives are looking for the SUV and another vehicle, possibly a Honda Accord, which was seen in the vicinity at the time. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Correction: The name of the wounded man is Randy Woods. The name was different in earlier versions of this story.
