Marine found dead near barracks at Camp Lejeune identified as Lindenhurst man

Officials have identified the Marine found dead near his barracks at Camp Lejeune last week as a Lindenhurst man.

The body of Lance Cpl. Ricardo Rodriguez Jr., 25, was found early Friday. Rodriguez was taken to Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune where he was pronounced dead.

Capt. Ryan Alvis said Rodriguez was an armory custodian with the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Alvis said the Naval Criminal Investigative Service is probing the death.

Rodriguez joined the Marines in 2012 and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2013. He returned from an assignment in Africa last month.

Rodriguez's death was the second at Camp Lejeune in a two-day period last week.

Cpl. Alexis Aaron Alcaraz, 22, died Thursday after collapsing during a training hike.
