It took officers from five police agencies about two hours early Sunday to disperse an unruly crowd of about 750 that had gathered in a residential area of Riverhead, police officials said.
After receiving a call about the crowd at North Oakland Drive near Grove Street at 12:08 a.m., Riverhead police said officers arrived to find about 750 youths in the streets, obstructing traffic and being disorderly.
Riverhead police, assisted by units from Southampton Town Police, New York State Police, Suffolk County Police, New York State Park Police and Suffolk County Park Police, worked for two hours to disperse the crowd. Although several fights broke out during the incident, they were subdued by police, Riverhead police said.
No arrests or injuries were reported.
Riverhead police did not release any information about the cause of the incident.
