Riverhead police charge three with selling alcohol to underage customers

Three people have been charged with selling alcohol to patrons under the age of 21 at three stores in Riverhead, police said.

Barry L. Gamble, 59, of 197 Oakwood Dr. in Wading River, Henry Castillo, 22, of 15624 79th St. in Howard Beach, and an unidentified juvenile were charged with first degree unlawfully dealing with a child.

According to a Riverhead Town police report, Gamble made the sale at the Hessmart, 6305 Route 25A, Castillo at the Riverhead Supermarket and Deli, 945 W. Main St., and the juvenile at OK Petro, 1212 E. Main St.

Police said the charges were part of a New York State Liquor Authority compliance check conducted Saturday during which authorities were monitoring sales of alcohol to underage customers. The checks are part of an ongoing effort by the police department to ensure New York State Liquor Authority and New York State Penal Law compliance for the sale of alcohol to minors.
