Road reopens after bicyclist struck by car in West Babylon, police say

A man on a bicycle was seriously injured in West Babylon when he was hit by a motor vehicle Thursday, Suffolk police said.

Kenneth David was struck on Great East Neck Road near Arnold Avenue about 4:50 p.m. and was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, police said. He was treated for leg injuries and is listed in stable condition, police said in a news release Thursday night.

Great East Neck Road was closed briefly between Route 109 and Montauk Highway as investigators pieced together what happened, police said.

David, 55, of North Babylon, was going south in the northbound lanes of Great East Neck Road when he tried to cross the street and was struck by a 2001 Chevrolet work van, police said.

The driver of the van, Hector Morales, 31, of Lindenhurst, was not injured in the crash, police said. He remained at the scene and has not been charged, police said.

The van was impounded for a safety check.

Detectives ask anyone who witnessed this crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
