Road to North Asharoken reopens to 2-way traffic 24/7

Temporary repairs on the ruptured sea wall that protects Asharoken Avenue have been completed and the road is open to two-lane traffic 24 hours a day, Asharoken Village Mayor Patricia Irving said Thursday.

Huntington Town highway workers cleaned up the pavement and shoulder where the protecting sea wall was washed over and damaged by Saturday's nor'easter, opening both lanes to traffic Thursday afternoon, Irving said in a statement.

Until Thursday's cleanup, the road - the only way in and out of Eatons Neck and the village - was open to alternating single-lane travel during the day and fully open at night.

The Army Corps of Engineers has $20,000 made available immediately to complete an assessment of damage for full repair, spokesman Kenneth Wells said.
