State transportation officials announced that the Robert Moses Causeway Fire Island Inlet Bridge will carry only single-lane traffic during late-night hours for about two weeks as bridge repairs get underway.

The change will be in effect starting Monday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays, said state Department of Transportation officials in a news release.

"Southbound motorists are being stopped for a brief period while northbound motorists use the single available travel lane; then northbound motorists are being stopped while southbound motorists proceed," read the release, adding that the span is 50 years old and needs maintenance.

Officials said motorists may call 511 or visit 511NY.org for real-time traffic information as well as from the INFORM Transportation Management Center cameras at informny.com. The information is available on handheld communication devices at informny.mobi.
