A 32-year-old woman was hospitalized after police said she was attacked and mauled by a pit bull while walking along a residential street in Ronkonkoma Thursday.

Suffolk County police did not identify the woman other than to say she is from Ronkonkoma. The woman was transported by the Lakeland Fire Department to the St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown.

Police said the victim suffered bites to her head, arm and stomach. Her condition was not known on Friday.
