Ronkonkoma woman, 80, hit by car dies

An 80-year-old woman who locked herself out of her car at a Ronkonkoma grocery store and was then struck by a vehicle as she walked home to her nearby apartment died on Friday, Suffolk police said.

Matilde Burgos suffered head trauma and broken bones Thursday after being hit about 6:20 p.m. while trying to cross Hans Boulevard in Ronkonkoma, police said. She died at Stony Brook University Medical Center on Friday.

Michael Isola, 45, of Nesconset, was driving a 2002 Hyundai sedan northbound when his car hit Burgos, of Ronkonkoma, police said. She had been shopping at the Stop & Shop on Portion Road and was walking back to her apartment.

Isola remained at the scene, police said, and the investigation was continuing. No charges have been filed.
