Sagtikos Parkway shut for three hours after Suffolk detective car rear-ended

A Suffolk detective's car was rear-ended by another motorist Tuesday morning in a crash that shut down northbound Sagtikos State Parkway for three hours as Suffolk police investigated, authorities said.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, police said.

The crash happened about 10:30 a.m., just south of the Long Island Expressway in Brentwood, authorities said.

Suffolk police had accident reconstruction investigators at the scene, state police said.

The northbound lanes were closed until about 1:45 p.m., according to state transportation officials.

A police spokeswoman declined to release other details, including cause of accident.
