A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash Sunday morning in Sayville and was airlifted to a hospital, police said.

Suffolk Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating the crash between a vehicle and motorcycle that occurred about 11:30 a.m., officials said in a news release.

Daniel Lumley, 52, of Sayville, was operating a 2010 Harley-Davidson northbound on Foster Avenue in Sayville when he struck a 2014 Volkswagen Passat after the driver of the sedan turned left into a driveway and attempted to make a three-point-turn, police said.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Vito Ameruoso, 77, of Sayville, was not injured.

Lumley was airlifted by Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was listed in serious condition, police said.

The Passat and the motorcycle were impounded for safety checks.
