A serious vehicle crash killed a pedestrian and forced the closure of southbound Mastic Road in Mastic early Friday afternoon, police said.

Police said Rosa Guevara, 31, of Shirley, was traveling south on Mastic Road in a 2003 Toyota 4Runner at about 12:15 p.m. when the vehicle struck a westbound Chevrolet Cavalier at the intersection with Meadowmere Avenue.

The Toyota struck the curb and overturned, police said, striking Louis Stellato, 55, of Yaphank, as he walked on Mastic Road, police said.

Stellato was taken by Mastic Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where hospital staff pronounced him dead.

Guevara, the Chevrolet’s driver David Gordon, 62, of Mastic, and his passenger, Kimberly Gordon, 31, of Shirley, were not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the road was reopened after several hours.

Detectives are asking witnesses and those with details about the crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
